Having a shot again, hoping it hits again

Seriously, this is Batanes?! (Photo courtesy: Google Images)

Since there are already gazillions of entries posted in the SEAIR page, I’m going to make this easy and fast. There are only three reasons why I wanted to be part of SEAIR Batanes Winter Bloggers’ Tour and reach, finally, the heaven that is Batanes:

  1. I wanted to prove to myself that even the storm-favorite province of the Philippines has a little (if not, gigantic!) spot that is breath-taking, because I strongly believe that every place in this country has one.
  2. I’d give anything just to see the Batanes internet pictures in real life.
  3. I prefer to be the one on top (of the Philippine map).

Of course, I also wanted to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Especially that SEAIR will be hosting this activity, I know it will be grand. I’ve been part of the Boracay Bloggers’ Tour and I’ve seen with my own eyes how the SEAIR team has managed to give superb service to their customers. Since then, I’ve always looked forward to see and bond with them again.

There’s really something weird about the beautiful pictures of this place because whenever I hear Batanes, all I could think of was strong air and heavy rain. I am someone who strives just to feed her curiosity and I won’t let this chance pass.

I can only count in to my fingers the number of provinces that I’ve set my foot on and to be part of this tour is truly a dream come true. Just what I said on my Boracay Blogger’s Tour entry last September, I’m still not the outdoor type but because of the lucky chance that SEAIR gave me, I’m beginning to see the real wonders of our country and I can’t wait to see more of it. I guess my transformation as the internet, home-based geek to strong, risky and adventurous woman is coming soon and I know in my heart that SEAIR will forever be a part of it.

With crossed fingers, closed eyes and a powerful prayer in hand, I really, really wish to win this one and start 2011 with a joyful heart.

Without a Point Scored

We welcomed December with Facebook’s latest trend of changing our profile pictures to images of cartoon characters during our childhood days. Everyone’s status is: “Change your profile pic to a cartoon character from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same. Until Dec 6, there should be no human faces on FB, but an invasion of memories. This is a campaign to stop violence against children.” and then everyone’s update is about changing their profile pictures. All of a sudden, your newsfeed appeared like Cartoon Network or Animax on the internet.

Not that I’m playing the role of the evil step-mother again but I don’t want to engage myself to online activities like this. It’s not that I had an ugly childhood but it’s because I don’t see the point. I know most of these people changed their profile pictures just because it’s a fad and everyone’s doing it and they don’t want to be left alone in this world that spins so fast yet no one’s allowed to jump out and take a break.

And who set the rule of not being allowed to jump out?

I know that you’re not actually believing that this will end the violence against children so don’t feed that story to me. The union of your profile pictures will not bore a superhero that will save these victims from violence. It will not produce a spirit that will dig into the conscience of the heartless people that will suddenly give them the realization to stop hitting these children and start giving them toys and candies. It’s not putting up a fund raising activity or help center that will ACTUALLY help the victims.

As of today, everyone on my newsfeed is a 2-dimensional character. Several of them are posting the above status on my wall and I guess they thought that I have a heavy heart because I just deleted their posts and go back to my life, like giving coins to street children – a little action that has an actual effect I guess.

In summary, I would like to say the genuine motto of every Filipino: “Kanya-kanyang trip lang yan!” and I will not judge you or call you names. Continue your aim people! Be part of changing the world! And I’ll continue on watching your miserable lives. Kidding!

And if ever I change my mind, I’d be Kenshin Himura because until today I still believe that he’s my first love and first love never dies – but it can bury you alive. And it will not be because I finally believed that this will end the violence against children but because of peer pressure.
